Three kinds of tax work

Most people think of tax work as one thing: filing a return once a year. In practice it falls into three categories, and knowing which one you need saves time.

Compliance

Compliance means the return itself. It reports what happened last year accurately and on time. That’s necessary, but it looks backward, because by the time you’re filing, the year’s decisions are already made.

Planning

Planning happens before the year ends, while decisions can still change the outcome. It covers when to take income, how to structure a business, what to set aside for estimated payments, and how retirement contributions fit in.

Representation

Representation matters when something goes wrong: a notice arrives, a return is examined, or a balance has gone unpaid. As an Enrolled Agent, I’m federally authorized to deal with the IRS directly on your behalf.

IRS Representation

Most clients need more than one of these over time. Having the same person handle all three means nothing has to be explained twice.

Why work with an Enrolled Agent

A Treasury credential

The Enrolled Agent credential is issued by the U.S. Department of the Treasury and is specific to taxation. It’s one of three designations with unlimited rights to represent taxpayers before the IRS, and because it’s federal, it applies in all fifty states.

You work with me directly
